Citrate capped gold nanoparticle aggregation was tested with hematite, a common environmental colloid. In the image above, heteroaggregation of the nanoparticles (small black dots) with hematite colloids (larger dots) was observed with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imagery. These results were quantified using dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements and filtration experiments.
