In summer 2021 the World Track and Field Championships were held in Eugene Oregon. In collaboration with OHA, we sampled the sewers on the U or O campus and in the surrounding area.
The wastewater samples were measured for concentrations of pathogens, including COVID-19, influenza, RSV, hepatitis A, hepatitis E, measles and MERS. These results were provided to the public daily during the event. With an event that brought people from 190 countries to Eugene, monitoring of the wastewater enabled monitoring of potential infectious disease introduction to the community.
