October 2019: New publication Paper written by MS student, Genevieve Schutzius and co-authored by Dr. Tala Navab, "Antibiotic resistance in fecal sludge and soil in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam" was published in Environmental Science and Pollution Research.

August 2019: Dr. Navab-Daneshmand spoke at the Clean Water Workshop about Antibiotic Resistance in Environmental Reservoirs and Associated Human Health Risks.

August 2019: Sue Yee, Jackie, and Marjan, Samantha and Lauren, Catherine, and Gabi all presented their research at the Clean Water Workshop.

July 2019: The Navab Lab hosted 3 high school students for the 2019 Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth (SESEY). They identified and removed antibiotic resistant bacteria in several water samples from Corvallis.

June 2019: New publication Systematic review paper written by MS student, Chirtsine Nguyen and co-authored by undergrad Cody Hugie and Dr. Tala Navab, "Association between heavy metals and antibiotic-resistant human pathogens in environmental reservoirs: A review" was published in Frontiers in Environmental Science and Engineering.

June 2019: Lauren Lippman presented on synthesizing stormwater and the potential removal capacity of biochar columns at the World TechConnect Conference. 

May 2019: Catherine Mays presented on the Impact of Biosolids Amendment and Wastewater Irrigation on the Persistence of Antibiotic Resistance in Agricultural Soil and Prevalence on Food Crops for the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors 

April 2019: New publication Paper co-authored by Dr. Tala Navab, "Fecal Colonization With Multidrug-Resistant E.coli Among Healthy Infants in Rural Bangladesh" was published in Frontiers in Microbiology.

March 2019: Lauren Lippman was featured in the CBEE Student Spotlight in the March issue of Diffusion.

February 2019: Catherine Mays won best CBEE poster at the 2019 graduate research showcase with her poster entitled "Evaluating Antibiotic Resistance Along the 'Farm to Fork' Continuum."

February 2019: Christine Nguyen presented her thesis research in the 2019 COE graduate symposium on Ultraviolet Inactivation of Cryptosporidium parvum in a microfluidic reactor. The presentation was focused on the methodology of the project and the preliminary data findings with Escherichia coli, which has similar inactivation characteristics to Cryptosporidium. She also presented on their current computational model for micro reactor optimization and future work to be done. 

February 2019: Lauren Lippman received the Karena Dokken Mentor Award from the College of Engineering's Center for Diversity and Inclusion.

January 2019: New publication Paper co-authored by Dr. Tala Navab, "Safely Managed Hygiene: A Risk-Based Assessment of Handwashing Water Quality" was published in Environmental Science and Technology.

October 2018: Catherine Mays presented on Microbiological Testing of a Community-Based, Biomass-Fueled Water Pastuerizer and Procedures for Cleaning Household Water Transport Containers at the Water and Health Conference at UNC.

October 2018: Lauren Lippman presented on the Persistence of Escherichia Coli in Agricultural Soil After Wastewater Irrigation and Biosolids Soil Amendment and received the 2017-2018 Freshmen Recognition Award at the American Institute of Chemical Engineering Annual Student Conference. 

October 2018: Navab Lab featured in CBEE News: Environmental Engineers Critical to Fight Against Superbugs, by Keith Hautala.

October 2018: High-impact article A paper co-authored by Dr. Tala Navab, “An Environmental Science and Engineering Framework for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance” has been named as a “high-impact article” by the publishers of Environmental Engineering Science. 

October 2018: New publication Paper co-authored by Dr. Tala Navab, "Risk factors for detection, survival, and growth of antibiotic-resistant and pathogenic Escherichia coli in household soils in rural Bangladesh" is in press in Applied and Environmental Microbiology.

5/24/18: William, James, Tianna, Gabi, Jessica, and SueYee presented their undergraduate research experience at the OSU Celebrating Undergraduate Excellence poster session.

5/18/18: Christine Nguyen received the award for Best Overall Presentation. Her presentation was an broad explanation of her research project for her Master's thesis: Photocatalytic Inactivation of Cryptosporidium by Ultraviolet Radiation within a Microfluidic Reactor.

Winter 2018: Genevieve Schutzius, an M.S. student in the Navab lab, spent winter term 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (HCMC) investigating antibiotic resistance in septic tank sludge and in environmental soils around the city as a result of antibiotic overuse and sludge dumping. Click below to hear Genevieve talk about her project on the KVBR show "Inspiration Dissemination."
