Floraliza Bornasal graduated with a Ph.D at Oregon State University in 2015. She worked with Dr. Shane Brown examining the ways engineers utilized, represented, and interpreted concepts learned in school (e.g. sight distance, vehicle operations around a curve, etc.) as they completed authentic, “every day” tasks. Following her work at OSU, Dr. Bornasal was hired at her alma mater, Saint Martin's University, as an Assistant Professor within the Civil Engineering department. As noted by Dr. Bornasal, “This is basically my dream job. I get to teach students at a university I proudly consider my home-base. I get to add value to a community I love in a personally meaningful way.” Dr. Bornasal attributes her gaining employment at the teaching-centered institution to her work with Dr. Brown and the engineering education group.
